Hello, I’m Jon Ashworth
I was elected Member of Parliament for Leicester South at a by-election in May 2011.
In October 2016 I was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Health, by Jeremy Corbyn, having previously served as Shadow Minister without Portfolio.
I was also in Ed Miliband’s front bench team as Shadow Cabinet Office Minister from October 2013.
Before becoming an MP I worked in the Treasury as a special advisor to Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor, and continued to work for Gordon Brown when he became Prime Minister.
Outside of politics I’m a keen book-worm, and runner. My wife and I have two little girls and live in Leicester.
On Your Side in Leicester South
Since being elected as your MP in 2011 I’ve worked hard with you to improve our community and give a better future to our children and grandchildren.
Every week I stand up for people here and I’m always out and out across Leicester helping thousands upon thousands of local people with issues and problems.
I’m always on your side and always fighting your corner.
Your Voice in Parliament
As your MP, it is my job to make sure your voice is heard in Parliament. Because you elected me and put your trust in me, I will always be on your side.
Each week I stand up for you in the House of Commons, raising issues for debate directly in the chamber. As the Shadow Secretary of State for Health, I mainly speak on the NHS and better care for people.
If you have any issues that you would like me to raise at the Parliament, please get in touch with my Office.
