Jonathan Ashworth MP, known as Jon, has been the local Labour MP for Leicester South since May 2011 when he was elected in
a by-election

Jon is an active campaigner on the issues that matter for local people. In the past 12 months he has campaigned for more jobs and investment in the local area.

He led a local campaign against the government's top down changes to our NHS and has been active in many local campaigns such as to save children's heart services at Glenfield Hospital and for electrification of the Midland Mainline.

Given people are feeling worse off under the current government, Jon believes much more needs to be done to help local people with the cost of living.

He has been calling on the government to freeze energy bills. Jon also knows that childcare costs place a huge burden on families which is why he wants to see local mums and dads given more help and support with childcare.

In Parliament Jon is a Shadow Cabinet Office Minister as well as a member of Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee.

He lives in the Stoneygate area of Leicester South with his wife Emilie and two young daughters.
