Hello, I’m Jon Ashworth

I was elected Member of Parliament for Leicester South at a by-election in May 2011.

In September 2023 I was appointed Shadow Paymaster General. I have previously served as Labour’s longest running Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Shadow Minister without Portfolio, and Shadow Cabinet Minister.

I am currently a Policy Fellow at the Centre for Science and Policy at the University of Cambridge. In March 2021 I was proud to be appointed to the Privy Council by the Queen.

Before becoming an MP I worked in the Treasury as a special advisor to Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor, and continued to work for Gordon Brown when he became Prime Minister.

Outside of politics I’m a keen book-worm, and runner. My wife and I have two little girls and live in Leicester.

Your Voice in Parliament

As your MP, it is my job to make sure your voice is heard in Parliament. Because you elected me and put your trust in me, I will always be on your side.

Each week I stand up for you in the House of Commons, raising issues for debate directly in the chamber.

If you have any issues that you would like me to raise at the Parliament, please get in touch with my Office.
