The work of an MP centres around dealing with matters that affect people in the constituency. This means attending many local meetings and also face to face discussions with constituents, discussing issues and seeking solutions.

Then of course, there is the need to represent constituents by attending the Houses of Parliament each week, raising issues for debate directly in the chamber.

This page lists some of the speeches and questions raised by Jon in parliamentary sessions. The paragraphs listed contain the introductory text to the speech. For the full text, plus the context in which the speech was made, follow the link at the end of the paragraph.

Oral Answers to Questions - Health: NHS Services: Winter
Jon Ashworth: I am delighted that the Secretary of State has done his research on Leicester, but is closing operating theatres for a month this Christmas not, in reality, a short-term fix? The truth is that when the pause ends and hospitals fill up again above the 85% occupancy recommendations, patients will be left with a simple choice: get stuck on a waiting list while hospitals try to reduce occupancy...More...

Debates: CQC: NHS Deaths Review
Jon Ashworth: I thank the Secretary of State for advance sight of his statement, and I thank the CQC for its report. Any death is a tragedy for families, but when that death could have been prevented, or was the fault of a system that is meant to care for our loved ones, the trauma is all the more difficult to cope with. The circumstances of Connor Sparrowhawk's death were shocking, and I, like the...More...
