Jon stated: “I wrote to NHS England last week to raise my concerns about the event at the Tigers Stadium. I am extremely concerned at the low number of places available for the public to attend this event.”

“Given that the purpose of the event is to provide people with an opportunity to hear more about the proposals, and to ask questions about the proposed plans, it is extremely unsatisfactory that only 96 tickets, or seats, were allocated to the public.”

Jon has received a response to his letter where it is stated that NHS England has worked with the venue to increase the capacity of the room to allow more people to attend.

Jon commented: “An increase from 96 to 120 is simply not good enough. It is clear from the previous consultation to stop heart surgery at the Glenfield that there is a great deal of support to maintain it. There have already been two well attended marches supporting the campaign to keep Children’s Hearts services at Glenfield at the end of last year and earlier this month.”

Jon has written to Leicester City CCG requesting that the proposals are reconsidered or at the very least that the consultation is delayed until the Sustainability and Transformation Plan for the area is consulted on.

Jon said: “I have been contacted by many constituents about the suggested proposals which include giving the CCG the right to decide which residential care facility people are accommodated in.

It is proposed that the CCGs will consider the individuals first choice of residential care facility but that the CCG will retain the right to insist on using one of their preferred providers. This could mean that people could be placed somewhere they do not want to live, potentially far away from family and friends.”

The suggested proposals also include capping the amount of money spent on providing care in an individual's home by comparing it to the cost of a residential care home.

Jon received the invitation having expressed an interest in finding out more about award-winning local business at the Global Flavours of Leicestershire showcase held at the Houses of Parliament in October 2016.

Jon said: “It was my pleasure to visit such a prominent local business in the centre of Leicester and to learn about fine art of gelato making. It was good to see that Gelato Village uses local milk and cream for their gelato.”

Co-owners Daniele Taverna and Antonio De Vecchi gave Jon a private tour of their in-house Gelato Laboratory; where the Maestro Gelatiere uses fresh ingredients from Leicestershire and beyond to make his own-recipe gelato and sorbetto.

Daniele Taverna, co-owner of the Gelato Village, said: “We care greatly about the quality of our ingredients and we work hard to create recipes which do those ingredients justice. It was great pleasure to introduce our local Member of Parliament to our artisan gelato.”

The rise in personal borrowing has led to mounting concern that households who get into debt need safer ways to manage financial difficulties.

Jon has written to the Government to ask it to introduce the ‘Breathing Space’ scheme that would offer people seeking debt advice a 12-month legal protection from mounting interest, charges and enforcement action. The scheme would build on protections offered under the Debt Arrangement Scheme in Scotland, which has made sure that families sticking to an affordable repayment plan agreed with their creditors are not harried or hassled for the duration of that plan.
