Since the conflict began Islamic Relief has delivered more than £130 million worth of aid inside Syria and in neighbouring countries, assisting over 6.5 million Syrians. Today, Jon called in to Clarendon Park’s Annual Summer Fair, which took place from 11am to 5pm.

Jon always visits the fair, but this year he made a presentation to Janet Tibbey BEM, Manager of the Clarendon Park Playgroup.

Janet will be retiring from running the pre-school, based at Christchurch Baptist Church on Clarendon Park Road, which has given care to over 3,000 local children over the last 34 years.

Jon visited South Lodge care home as part of National Care Home Open Day. This successful initiative organised by Care England is being held for the fourth year in a row.

Jon said: “I have previously taken part in Care Home Open Day as it is important to appreciate care home staff and their continuous support to our loved ones. It was great visiting South Lodge and meeting staff and residents.”

National Care Home Day aims to reinforce connections within local communities and showcase the excellent care being provided by care staff across the UK. It is a great opportunity for the public to see the range of care services available and for care homes to establish valuable connections.

Jon Ashworth MP, along with the Right Honourable Keith Vaz MP, Glenis Willmott MEP and Deputy City Mayor Councillor Palmer, attended a Remain Rally in Jubilee Square.

Following Councillor Palmer’s Introduction, Jon spoke on why Britain is better off in the EU and the importance of those assembled campaigning hard over the next 13 days to spread the message that Britain must Remain In.

Jon Ashworth MP, and Councillor Inderjit Gugnani, were interviewed on Radio Kohinoor on the approaching EU Referendum.

Jon appeared on Sital Singh Gill’s morning show and answered various questions on the EU Referendum including the cost of the EU, immigration, business, travel and how the EU benefits Leicester.

Jon Ashworth MP called into the Elders Lunch Club at Wesley Hall on Hartington Road.

The Lunch Club is run by Active Wesley Hall, which provides a great deal of early years provision, mental health services and local community activities for elderly people.

Active Wesley Hall offers a minibus service which transports elderly people in the Asian community from their homes to Wesley Hall, and vice versa. The minibus service also assists people in doing their daily grocery shopping in Highfields.

Prior to the Lunch Club the elderly people take part in sitting down exercises, designed to improve their health and wellbeing.

Jon Ashworth MP visited local businesses on Hartington Road today.

Jon spoke to various businesses and local residents about issues that affected them, not just locally, but also nationally, such as the upcoming EU referendum.

Jon commented: “I enjoy visiting different areas in my Constituency and it is really important to engage with people on issues such as the EU referendum. People can raise any concerns they may have without needing to come to my office in the city centre.”
